Colavita/Sutter Home Cycling Team in Manhattan Beach!

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Colavita/Sutter Home’s Sebastian Haedo finished second in Sunday’s Manhattan Beach Grand Prix but that was all he needed to move up to #1 in the NRC (National Racing Calendar) men’s individual standings. Racing only with his Argentine compatriot Alejandro Borrajo, the pair secured positions behind the Rock Racing lead-out train in the final laps of the men’s 80-minute criterium. An untimely accident caused Alejandro to chase his way back into the peloton with two laps to go. Separated from his teammate, Sebastian made his own way to the back of US National Criterium Champion Rahsaan Bahati (Rock Racing). The pair rounded the final U-turn that marked 200-meters to go in a full speed sprint to the line. Sebastian was a close second while Alejandro was forced to settle for 10th.

After many hard-fought podium finishes, the Colavita/Sutter Home Men’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light retains the top ranking in the NRC team standings. “Our sponsors have been backing us for seven years and I’m pleased that our hard work is paying off in more and more successes,” said Directeur Sportif Sebastian Alexandre, who began his US racing career with Colavita/Sutter Home when the team made its debut on the pro circuit in 2002. “I’m very pleased to see our squad doing so well – both individually and in the overall. It’s the first time that Colavita/Sutter Home leads the NRC as a team and with an individual rider.”

Colavita/Sutter Home will aim for its second sweep of the season at the Fitchburg Longsjo Classic as Kyle Wamsley and Cath Cheatley return to defend their titles. Kyle will be joined at the line by Luis Amaran, Alejandro Borrajo, Anthony Colby, Andy Guptill, Sebastian Haedo, Dan Vaillancourt, and Tyler Wren. Kelly Benjamin, Andrea Dvorak, Rachel Heal, Heather Logan, Stacy Marple, Carmen McNellis, and Tina Pic will represent the Colavita/Sutter Home Women’s Team with Cath. The Colavita/Sutter Home Women’s Team currently leads in the team rankings of the Women’s Prestige Cycling Series.

Colavita/Sutter Home Cycling Teams presented by Cooking Light Finish in Top 10 at Philadelphia Races

The Colavita/Sutter Home Men’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light put two riders in the top 10 of the Philadelphia International Classic on Sunday. Alejandro Borrajo finished 7th and teammate Sebastian Haedo followed in 9th.  At 156 miles, the Philadelphia International Classic is the longest one-day race in the US (Andrei Greipel of Team Columbia was the first to cross the finish line, with a time of just under 6.5 hours).
Cath Cheatley of the Colavita/Sutter Home Women’s Cycling Team presented by Cooking Light finished fifth in the women’s 57.6-mile Liberty Classic.  Cath was among a handful of riders able to maintain the rapid pace set by race leader Team Columbia-Highroad in the  climb up the infamous Manayunk “Wall”.  The photo of Cath below is just one of the racing images from Philly taken by Jonathan Devich.
Racing continues tomorrow in Minnesota with the six-stage Nature Valley Grand Prix.
