Fila: How do you feel on reaching your first Grand Slam quarterfinal?
Marin Cilic: Reaching quarterfinal for the first time feels great. It shows how well I can play and how good I was preparing for this tournament. This year and year before I had good successes on Grand Slam tournaments and that was also one of the reasons why i played good tennis there. I believe with a lot of work and good attitude I can improve even more.
Fila: Part of your game worked really was instrumental in your win over the world number 2 Andy Murray?
MC: Definetely. On the beggining of the tournament I didn’t play great tennis but as I played more matches my game was coming together. I think that preparation for the match was crucial, my coach gave me a lot of good advices and then was easier to play.
Fila: What are your goals for the remainder of 2009?
MC: For the rest of the season several big tournaments are left and my goal is to continue to play good like I played last few weeks and results will come.
Fila: Your goals for 2010?
MC: For 2010 I would like to have best performances on grand slams as thats most important to me. This year I did very good on all of those tournaments and I believe that I can do even better next year.
Fila: What is your upcoming schedule?
MC: I am playing in Davis Cup semifinal this weekend against Czech Republic, after that Beijing 500 tournament, Shanghai 1000 and Moscow.
Fila: Can Croatia win the 2009 Davis Cup?
MC: Croatia has big potential to do well in Davis Cup cause we have solid team and our next tie is played at home. Eventual final could be against Spain or Israel, from my point of view we could play Spain which is again going to be in Croatia.
Fila: How do you relax before a match?
MC: Before a match I am most of the time staying in the locker room or in quiet areas where I can find my peace. I dont like to walk aroun too much people, especially before matches. I make a good warm up, prepare mentally and tactically and I can go on the court.
Fila: What will you work on during the off season in November/December?
MC: For the work in the off season I am gonna focus a lot on physical preparation and concerning tennis I will leave that to my coach. He has good vision what I have to work on to become much better.
