Loosely adapted from Alan Clarke’s 1989 classic TV film, Nick Love’s film is set earlier in the 80’s and retalls a similar story to the original but from a different character’s point of view.
With the film, returns to The legendary “Terrinda”.The inclusion of Terrinda within The Firm celebrates the history of our brand as a true iconic sportswear brand that was adopted by the 80’s casual culture, and introduces it to a new audience of future Fila collectors. Seen as the Holy Grail for Fila collectors, original Terrinda pieces regularly command over £1,000 on eBay - but the special edition 2009 will be available at the original 1982 price of £150. This re-release comes after three years of behind the scenes work by Fila’s design team to recreate the original unique fabric, ensuring utter authenticity to the brand heritage. The Terrinda release also allows new Fila fans to become collectors by grabbing a slice of fashion history.
The Firm is focused on the UK football casual culture of the 80’s, where rival gangs, known as firms, and their members described as ‘casuals’, wore brightly coloured sportswear and designer clothing as uniforms. The plot centres on an aspiring casual, who gets drawn into the charismatic but dangerous world of the firm’s leader. Paul Anderson and Calum MacNab feature in the film (both previously starred in The Football Factory) along with upcoming actor Daniel Mays (who recently appeared in Shifty). The Firm is out for general release in the UK and Ireland in September 2009.

As Kim Clijsters makes her return the Grand Slam tennis, Fila’s fall Heritage Collection makes its debut on the courts at the Arthur Ashe National Tennis Center in New York . The collection is inspired by Fila’s extensive archive of Italian designed product and features Fila’s iconic red, white and navy colors and cutting edge performance fabrics. Marin Cilic, Dmitry Tursunov, Anna Chakvetadze, Janko Tipsarevic, Agi Szavay, Svetlana Kuznetsova and other Fila players will wear the new collection for the Grand Slam tournament along with Fila’s Alfa performance tennis shoes, a modern complement to the classic style of the Heritage collection.
The Heritage collection pays homage to Fila’s great achievements in world-class tournament play. Fila’s history as an innovator in tennis apparel that has been worn by some of the game’s greatest names over the last 35 years is an ever-present inspiration to Fila design team.

On Thursday, August 27th, Fila and James Blake joined Lord & Taylor and Tennis magazine to launch Thomas Reynolds. James addressed hundreds of fans who joined him to celebrate the debut of the line during a public appearance on the main floor of Lord & Taylor on Fifth Avenue in New York City.
James then attended a VIP event on the beautiful 11th floor Terrace at the store. Courtesy of Tennis magazine, DJ Ross One brought his signature Miami sound to New York while guests mingled under the beautiful skyline of the city.
Today, Fila and James Blake will launch the Thomas Reynolds Collection, a co-branded collaboration inspired by the ATP world Tour tennis star’s life and interests. Blake will debut the fall 2009 Thomas Reynolds collection during his first match at the US Open. Fila’s international design team joined forces with Blake to develop the collection of apparel, footwear and accessories which incorporates the design heritage of the Fila brand with a contemporary twist inspired by Blake’s signature style. The Thomas Reynolds logo was designed by James.
James spent several months searching for the name for the brand for the collection. In the end, he selected the name Thomas Reynolds, which is the first and middle name of his father. James often refers to his father as a superhero and so it is not surprising that his name was chosen for the brand. After months of working with Fila’s design team, Fila and James Blake will launch Thomas Reynolds this week in New York.
According to Blake, “I wanted to create a line with Fila because I have learned a lot about tennis fashion throughout my career. I felt that I could create a line that is functional and stylish both on and off the court. Collaborating with Fila and their long history in tennis and sportswear made sense. It was the perfect fit!”
Fila and James Blake will partner with Lord & Taylor and Tennis magazine to launch the collection tonight in New York. James will greet fans and sign autographs in the Thomas Reynolds concept shop at Lord & Taylor on Fifth Avenue on Thursday, August 27th at 6pm. The VIP launch event to unveil the line will feature DJ Sky Nellor and be held on the 11th floor Terrace at Lord & Taylor the same evening.
“I wanted the line to be more transitional,” said Blake, “and include styles that can be worn on-court, yet are stylish enough to wear for a night out.”
Thomas Reynolds is also available at Dicks Sporting Goods, Paragon Sports, Mason’s Tennis Mart, Tennniswarehouse.com, fila.com and select specialty retailers nationwide.
Over the past 10 years, James Blake has become known for more than playing tennis on the ATP World Tour. From modeling in GQ and Vogue, to being one of People Magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive”, to best-selling author, to charitable work, you would think that he has done it all! Think again! Blake can now add “fashion designer” to his many talents!
At this year’s US Open in Flushing Meadows, Blake will debut the Thomas Reynolds Collection. Fila collaborated with James to help him build a new brand that would serve as the platform for his professional life beyond tennis.
Thomas Reynolds is the first and middle name of James’ father, Thomas Reynolds Blake. James will tell you that he was blessed to grow up with a father who taught him values that he feels have been the key to his success both on and off court.
In 2004, James drew on those important lessons to overcome a life threatening injury, the loss of his beloved father to cancer and a career threatening illness. He would draw on those lessons again in 2005 when he started the year ranked 210 in the world and ended at number 22. James often refers to his father as a superhero and it is no wonder that James decided to make his father a part of the brand.
Watch James Blake as he talks about Thomas Reynolds by Fila at a recent photo shoot for the brand.
Visit fila.com for more information about Thomas Reynolds, interviews with James and information about the launch of the line over the next two weeks!
Marin Cilic is a HUGE soccer fan. So much so, in fact, that he approached Fila about creating a special tennis crew inspired by the Croatian National Team jersey. This weekend, Marin displayed his national pride…soccer team pride, during Davis Cup action against the United States.
Cilic won his first Davis Cup Singles match yesterday against Mardy Fish during a 5-Set battle. He faces Fila’s own James Blake on Sunday. Croatia leads the United States 2-1 in Davis Cup play
In other Davis Cup news, Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram secured Israel its first ever Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Semifinal, by outlasting Russia’s Kunitsyn and Safin, 6-3, 6-4, 6-7(3), 4-6, 6-4. Congrats Andy & Jonathan for the win in Tel Aviv!
