James Blake shows off latest looks from Thomas Reynolds

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Inspired by James Blake’s contemporary sports lifestyle and keen sense of style, the expanded Spring 2010 Thomas Reynolds Collection by Fila will be available at retail just as James takes the courts during the U.S. swing of the ATP World Tour calendar.  Blake debuted the new collection during his first match at the Australian Open, a hot, challenging environment ideal for displaying the excellent performance qualtities of the Thomas Reynolds by Fila Collection that will carry him through the Fila-sponsored BNP Paribas Open and Sony Ericsson Open.

The expanded spring collection sticks primarily to an elegant black and white theme with hints of jester red (a nod to his alma mater, Harvard) detailing and embroidered TR Fila logos. Blake also chose to add additional pieces to the line with a particular emphasis on training.  Blake’s signature long shorts in two colors (black and white) are complemented by five different 100% polyester short sleeve shirt styles, all with curved hems and drop tails — three crews and two elegant polos.

Comfort is one of Blake’s most important design requirements,  for optimal flexibility and performance on court and when training.  His crews are eye catching and are functional. The solid crew (black, white and jester red) cools and vents using mesh side panels while the mesh crew is made from popcorn mesh performance fabric and offers the ultimate in moisture control with unique contrast inserts. James’ favorite, the sublimated crew (black/white and Jester red/white) is a strong look on and off court.  Stylish and functional, Blake’s polos offer extraordinary patterns – the horizontal striped polo in gray heather and black cut from coconut carbon jersey with popcorn mesh side panels, and the uniform box patterned jacquard polo in both black and white.

Thomas Reynolds is carried at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Sport Chalet, Tennis Warehouse, Racquet World, Tennis Express and fila.com http://shop.fila.com/us/eng/collections/thomas-reynolds and select specialty retailers around the country.

Up Close - Janko Tipsarevic

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

The new ATP World Tour season is under full swing (no pun intended) and Janko Tipsarevic is keeping things new and fresh by revamping his website.  Janko’s new site provides fans with interesting facts about Janko and even lets them interact with him!

Ever wonder what beat is pumping up your favorite athlete? Well, Janko probably has house music, like DJ Axwell, blasting on his headphones. When he doesn’t have a racquet in his hand, Janko loves to snowboard. If there is even more you want to know about Janko then you can visit the “Ask Him” section of the website to have your questions answered personally by Janko. After learning about Janko’s favorites you can check out photos of him in action, relaxing on holidays, and spending time with his friends and  family.   Did we mention that you can also keep up with Janko’s matches?

When asked about his new website, Janko said,

I’m very excited to have my own official website, where my fans can follow what I’m doing during the season. Everyone’s welcome to send comments and ask questions!

Ever wonder about Janko’s multiple tattoos like our friends at Tennis Served Fresh?        The tattoo in Japanese on his left arm is a quote from one of his favorite authors, Fyodor  Dostoyevsky. It means “Beauty will save the world.” On his right arm are the first two letters of each of his family member’s names in Japanese Katakana. Find out about the rest of Janko’s tattoos and much more at his website www.jtipsarevic.com

“Zip it” with The Firm in the UK

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Loosely adapted from Alan Clarke’s 1989 classic TV film, Nick Love’s film is set earlier in the 80’s and retalls a similar story to the original but from a different character’s point of view.

With the film, returns to The legendary “Terrinda”.The inclusion of Terrinda within The Firm celebrates the history of our brand as a true iconic sportswear brand that was adopted by the 80’s casual culture, and introduces it to a new audience of future Fila collectors. Seen as the Holy Grail for Fila collectors, original Terrinda pieces regularly command over £1,000 on eBay - but the special edition 2009 will be available at the original 1982 price of £150. This re-release comes after three years of behind the scenes work by Fila’s design team to recreate the original unique fabric, ensuring utter authenticity to the brand heritage. The Terrinda release also allows new Fila fans to become collectors by grabbing a slice of fashion history.

The Firm is focused on the UK football casual culture of the 80’s, where rival gangs, known as firms, and their members described as ‘casuals’, wore brightly coloured sportswear and designer clothing as uniforms. The plot centres on an aspiring casual, who gets drawn into the charismatic but dangerous world of the firm’s leader. Paul Anderson and Calum MacNab feature in the film (both previously starred in The Football Factory) along with upcoming actor Daniel Mays (who recently appeared in Shifty). The Firm is out for general release in the UK and Ireland in September 2009.
