James Blake shows off latest looks from Thomas Reynolds

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Inspired by James Blake’s contemporary sports lifestyle and keen sense of style, the expanded Spring 2010 Thomas Reynolds Collection by Fila will be available at retail just as James takes the courts during the U.S. swing of the ATP World Tour calendar.  Blake debuted the new collection during his first match at the Australian Open, a hot, challenging environment ideal for displaying the excellent performance qualtities of the Thomas Reynolds by Fila Collection that will carry him through the Fila-sponsored BNP Paribas Open and Sony Ericsson Open.

The expanded spring collection sticks primarily to an elegant black and white theme with hints of jester red (a nod to his alma mater, Harvard) detailing and embroidered TR Fila logos. Blake also chose to add additional pieces to the line with a particular emphasis on training.  Blake’s signature long shorts in two colors (black and white) are complemented by five different 100% polyester short sleeve shirt styles, all with curved hems and drop tails — three crews and two elegant polos.

Comfort is one of Blake’s most important design requirements,  for optimal flexibility and performance on court and when training.  His crews are eye catching and are functional. The solid crew (black, white and jester red) cools and vents using mesh side panels while the mesh crew is made from popcorn mesh performance fabric and offers the ultimate in moisture control with unique contrast inserts. James’ favorite, the sublimated crew (black/white and Jester red/white) is a strong look on and off court.  Stylish and functional, Blake’s polos offer extraordinary patterns – the horizontal striped polo in gray heather and black cut from coconut carbon jersey with popcorn mesh side panels, and the uniform box patterned jacquard polo in both black and white.

Thomas Reynolds is carried at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Sport Chalet, Tennis Warehouse, Racquet World, Tennis Express and fila.com http://shop.fila.com/us/eng/collections/thomas-reynolds and select specialty retailers around the country.

Be Kind to Your Knees!

Friday, February 19th, 2010

Mountain Pose, Half Standing Forward Bend, Plank,  Chaturanga, Upward-Facing Dog,  Downward-Facing Dog, Feet to Hands, Half Standing Forward Bend, Upward Salute to Mountain Pose ….this series of Sun Salutations develops focus and peace of mind.

When you are practicing poses like Low Lunge Half Frog or  One-Legged Pidgeon, it is hard to feel zen when your knees are killing you!  Let’s face it, yoga mats just don’t have enough cushioning to protect your knees from hard studio floors.

The design team from Fila collaborated with Fila Yoga brand ambassador Kristin McGee to develop a yoga pant that is “kind” to your knees! Padding is a new concept in yoga and Fila’s new Knee Pad yoga pant has hidden padding to cushion during asanas.

The idea came from Kristin’s mom Karen who was complaining about her knees hurting during some of the poses.

As the editors from iVillage said, Fila’s Knee Pad yoga pants are “tailored to fit almost any height and, you’ll be saying ‘om’ instead of ouch!

Barbie likeness of Kim Clijsters & daughter Jada

After her triumphant return to the WTA Tour last summer, Kim Clijsters and her darling daughter Jada have been immortalized…as Barbie dolls!  Yesterday in Nuremberg, Germany at the world’s largest toy fair, Kim and her daughter Jada were unveiled as Barbie dolls!   Kim becomes the first female athlete to be immortalized by Barbie.

As reported by the Associated Press & Down the Line Tennis, Kim said,

When I was a young girl I played with my Barbie dolls all the time and took them with me everywhere I went. I am therefore deeply honoured and humbled as I today join the ranks of iconic women who represent Barbie’s aspirational values.

My family means everything to me, so I was really excited when I found out that Jada would also receive her very own ‘Jada Barbie’ doll.

Kim’s Barbie likeness is wearing the Fila Heritage Collection top and skort that Kim wore during her 2009 US Open win. To check out the latest Fila tennis apparel, visit http://shop.fila.com/us/eng/collections/tennis

Up Close - Janko Tipsarevic

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

The new ATP World Tour season is under full swing (no pun intended) and Janko Tipsarevic is keeping things new and fresh by revamping his website.  Janko’s new site provides fans with interesting facts about Janko and even lets them interact with him!

Ever wonder what beat is pumping up your favorite athlete? Well, Janko probably has house music, like DJ Axwell, blasting on his headphones. When he doesn’t have a racquet in his hand, Janko loves to snowboard. If there is even more you want to know about Janko then you can visit the “Ask Him” section of the website to have your questions answered personally by Janko. After learning about Janko’s favorites you can check out photos of him in action, relaxing on holidays, and spending time with his friends and  family.   Did we mention that you can also keep up with Janko’s matches?

When asked about his new website, Janko said,

I’m very excited to have my own official website, where my fans can follow what I’m doing during the season. Everyone’s welcome to send comments and ask questions!

Ever wonder about Janko’s multiple tattoos like our friends at Tennis Served Fresh?        The tattoo in Japanese on his left arm is a quote from one of his favorite authors, Fyodor  Dostoyevsky. It means “Beauty will save the world.” On his right arm are the first two letters of each of his family member’s names in Japanese Katakana. Find out about the rest of Janko’s tattoos and much more at his website www.jtipsarevic.com

Cilic into Quarterfinals in Melbourne!

He is one of the hottest players on the ATP World Tour right now. After a strong finish in 2009 where he was close to qualify for the season-ending ATP Finals and a win in Chennai for his first title of 2010, Marin Cilic faces Andy Roddick in the Quarterfinals of the Australian Open on Tuesday.  Cilic did not have an easy road to this match! During a four-plus hour match against US Open Champion Juan Martin del Potro, Cilic showed the world that he had what it takes to go head to head against the top players in the world. Roddick and Cilic have a 9-0 match record in 2010.  This is a match that should not be missed!

ESPN.com interviewed Marin’s coach Bob Brett yesterday in Australia and Brett had this to say about Marin’s development since the US Open and the upcoming match aginst Roddick:

“Definitely the win against Murray in New York was very good, and then against Davydenko, Nadal and Verdasco,” Bob Brett, Cilic’s venerable coach, said before practice Monday. “He’s just become more aggressive. Now he’s stronger, fitter, and he’s able to sustain it for a longer period of time. Playing these guys more often, it’s possible to learn.”
