Stacy Lewis Returns Home for LPGA Champs

Monday, November 16th, 2009

The best in the LPGA will converge upon The Houstonian Golf & Country Club in Houston this week for the LPGA Championship presented by Rolex.  LPGA Rookie Stacy Lewis, a former high school state champ from The Woodlands, qualified for the 120 person  72-hole stroke play competition.

As reported by the Houston Chronicle, Stacy is very excited to return home for the LPGA Championship:

“I think of Texas, I think of Houston and I think of golf,” she said.  “I don’t think I have even played in Texas since high school, so this is a really exciting time for me to get to come home and play in front of friends and family,” Lewis said. “I also know firsthand how competitive golf is for girls in that whole area (Houston), and I know I would have loved to go to an LPGA tournament and watch when I was in high school.”

The LPGA Tour Championship will benefit Pediatric Orthopedic Services at Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital  - the same hospital where Stacy received her treatment for Scoliosis as a teen.

Stacy was interviewed on Channel 2 in Houston last night! See what she had to say about the LPGA Championship!  http://www.click2houston.com/video/21623701/index.html

Marin Cilic & Svetlana Kuznetsova advance to China Open final

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

Marin Cilic shocked ATP World Tour ranked #2 Rafael Nadal today with a 6-1, 6-3 win to advance to the final of  the China Open in Beijing.  In a first set that lasted under 30 minutes, Cilic broke Nadal’s serve twice in the first set.  Cilic had six aces in the first set and raced to a 5-0 lead!  He continued to play aggressively in the second set, breaking Nadal’s serve in the first and sixth game.

Cilic told the Associated Press,

“From the beginning of the match until the end I didn’t let my level of play drop and definitely I came into the match really good, I was aggressive when I had to be. The best thing I did today: I didn’t back off, I was just stubborn with my style of play.”

Cilic has not won any of his three previous matches against Djokovic, but we think he has a shot! Good luck Marin!

In the women’s draw, Svetlana Kuznetsova defeated Russian Nadia Petrova, 6-1, 6-3, to advance to the final against 12th seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland. Good luck Sveta!!!

Fila & Kristin McGee “Flex in the City”

Sunday, September 27th, 2009

Fila sponsored the St. Luke’s Women’s Fitness Celebration (the Celebration) in Boise, Idaho last week.  The Celebration is a three day event encompassing a two day Women’s Show and a 5K Run, Walk and is about celebrating health and wellness in any form, for anyone. Fila highlighted the latest women’s yoga apparel and accessories in the Fila shop at the Celebration’s Women’s Show.

The Celebration is for women of all ages and all abilities to come together in a supportive environment.  Founded 17 years ago by Commonwealth Games medalist and Olympian Anne Audain, the goal of the Celebration was to create an event where elite athletes and grandmothers felt comfortable on the same course on the same day.

Thousands of women  line up on Celebration Saturday and complete the 3.1 mile course, whether they finish in under 30 minutes or over an hour.  In addition to the 5K, the Celebration includes a two-day Women’s Show at the Boise Centre on the Grove. This event draws close to 20,000 attendees each year, and is host to over 160 vendors. The Celebration is one of the largest women’s events in the United States!

This year, Fila and Idaho native Kristin McGee presented “Flex in the City” to introduce Celebration attendees to the benefits of yoga. Kristin led local Boise residents in a vinyasa flow class on the NBC 4 stage at the Celebration. From downward dog, to tree pose to warrior pose, Kristin not only demonstrated yoga poses, but she showed attendees how to be transformed by yoga practice. Earlier in the day, Kristin led a ”yoga at your desk” session to teach attendees how  to re-energize during the work day. Check out pictures of Kristin during her classes!

In its seventeen years of existence, The Celebration has made a positive impact on the community of Boise and its surrounding area. With the increased awareness of health and fitness, the Celebration has allowed many women to start a path to a healthy lifestyle.
