The US leg of the tennis tour is in full swing, so we caught up with Francine Candiotti from Fila’s design team to talk about the inspiration behind the new women’s Heritage Collection that Fila’s Kim Clijsters wore on-court today during her first round match at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami.
For the 100 year anniversary of the brand last year, the apparel team scoured through the archives & found so many amazing designs and ad campaigns that inspired them for future collections. The design team fell in love with the images they found from a watersports campaign – especially images featuring a swimsuit with a flame-like applique. When they went to meet with Fila’s first designer Pierluigi Rolando during that trip to Italy, his wife showed them her immaculate collection of Fila swimwear….and they saw the suit in person!
Check out the images from Fila’s campaigns from the 70′s and 80′s on the design team’s inspiration board for the collection as well as images of Fila’s athletes wearing the collection at the BNP Paribas Open & Sony Ericsson Open.
