After the 2008 Australian Open, the world knew Janko Tipsarevic. The five-set thriller against Roger Federer was the culmination of years of hard work to climb the ATP rankings.  Janko, a former world number 1 ranked junior, made his ATP debut in 2003 in Indianapolis after representing the former Yugoslavia in Davis Cup in 2001 - 2002.  In 2003, he qualified for the US Open, continued Davis Cup success and racked up Challenger titles. In 2004, while honing his skills at Challenger events, he qualified for both Roland Garros and Wimbledon.  2005 was Janko’s breakthrough year when he broke into the Top 100 and played in a career high 15 ATP Tour tournaments and posted his best Grand Slam result by advancing to the third round of Wimbledon. After completing his university studies in Sports Management in 2006, Janko had his best career season in 2007 when he finished the year ranked number 52 on the ATP Tour. He consistently advanced to the third or fourth rounds and reached his first ATP semi-final in Moscow. His 2008 season is off to a great start after achieving a career high ranking of 34 in April after a heroic performance at the Australian Open and strong finishes in Miami and Zagreb.  This is just the beginning of what is destined to be an exciting year for the young Serbian.

Janko began playing tennis at the age of six and at eight, he started playing at “AS” New Belgrade Tennis Club. As a junior player, he captured the Australian Open Juniors title and advanced to the Quarter Final at Roland Garros.  When he is not on the tennis court, Janko enjoys snowboarding, house music and classic literature. He is also known on tour for his tattoos. Each one has special meaning, one representing quotations from Schopenhauer on his back, from Dostoyevsky’s The Idiot on his left arm, (“Beauty will save the world.”) and Japanese writing on his right arm representing the first two letters of the names of his father, mother and brother. He began playing tennis at age six and is coached by Jousep Perlas.
