Twenty-one straight wins, 3 US Open titles, it is no wonder Kim Clijsters loves New York!
Kim Clijsters won her third US Open title (second straight win) on Saturday night in front of a packed crowd in Arthur Ashe Stadium at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Clijsters needed less than an hour to cinch the title against Vera Zvonareva 6-2, 6-1.
At the US Open last year, Clijsters had a memorable run to win the 2009 US Open title in just her third tournament back after a more than two-year retirement to marry Brian Lynch and have her first child, Jada.
During the post-match press conference, Kim said:
"New York is an amazing place for me. It has brought nothing but happiness to my tennis life. Whenever I step on this court (Ashe), it feels like coming home. It is the support (from the fans) that makes me play better."
On the hardcourt surface at the US Open:
"The surface has always been one of my favorite surfaces to play on. The blue courts make it a lot easier for me to see on. I have always had a good run on the American hardcourts even when I was younger. I have always had a pretty good record going there. I have a natural instinct of just adapting really well to the hardcourts, which does not come as easily for me when I go on different surfaces."
Kim wore Fila's Center Court Collection during the 2010 US Open which is available on fila.com http://shop.fila.com/us/eng/women/tennis
